With support from Norway, a training center for the Ukrainian army has been opened in southeastern Poland, near the Ukrainian border, capable of simultaneously training 1,200 Ukrainian service members.
The opening of Camp Jomsborg on Wednesday was attended by officials from Ukraine, Poland, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, and Iceland, according to the Polish Ministry of Defense, as reported by Ukrinform.
“The opening of the center demonstrates the ability to train Ukrainian soldiers in large numbers at a good location—the Subcarpathian region near Ukraine, on a training ground that is now really beginning its second life. This training ground is receiving capabilities it has never had before,” said Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Mariusz Kosiniak-Kamysz.
He thanked Norway for quickly helping implement the idea and emphasized the importance of allies benefiting from Ukrainian experience.
“Next to us is a runway for launching drones. There is a place to study the ongoing war in Ukraine, implement best practices and counter-drone measures, and utilize the drones that the Ukrainian army possesses,” Kosiniak-Kamysz added.
The center is located at the Dęba-Lipa Land Forces Training Center. It was established as part of an international initiative of the Norwegian Armed Forces with Poland as the host country.
The Polish Ministry of Defense stressed that the center is another element of allied support for Ukraine and allows continued cooperation in building defense capabilities.
Ukraine was represented at the opening ceremony by Deputy Defense Minister Yuriy Myronenko.
