After Russia attacked Ukraine, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner told Ukraine's ambassador that "Ukraine has only a few hours", so he opposed weapon supplies to Kyiv and Russia's disconnection from SWIFT.

Melnyk noted that when it comes to German politicians, he does not differentiate between parties. He distinguishes between those who are serious about Ukraine and those who "just pretend."
The ambassador told the newspaper about his conversations with several German politicians after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. According to him, the Minister of Finance Christian Lindner sat next to him with "such a polite smile" and spoke as if the defeat of the Ukrainians had long been decided in advance.
"You have a few hours," Lindner told to Melnik.
According to Melnyk, Germany's finance minister told the ambassador that supplying weapons to Ukraine or excluding Russia from SWIFT was pointless. Instead, he wanted to talk about Russian-occupied Ukraine with the puppet government of Russia.
"It was the worst conversation of my life," Melnyk commented.
Before the open invasion of Russia, Germany was strongly opposed to arms supplies to Ukraine because they believed that this would lead to escalation in the Donbass.
On February 26, Germany first allowed third countries to send weapons to Ukraine and then began its own supplies.
Earlier, Ambassador Melnyk rejected the invitation of the President of Germany to a "concert of solidarity" with Ukraine, calling the event an insult to Ukrainians.
