EU Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius, stated that denying Ukraine NATO membership would only ease Russia's planning for further aggressive actions.

He made this statement on social media platform X.

"Russia demands ‘no NATO’ for Ukraine. Not because they fear an anti-Russian NATO offensive from Ukrainian territory –but because they fear NATO will defend Ukraine against Russia’s next aggression," said the European Commissioner.

Recently, former US President Donald Trump stated that he does not believe Ukraine will ever join the North Atlantic Alliance, as, in his opinion, "this caused the start of the war" with Russia.

In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Trump's administration's position on excluding Ukraine from NATO "satisfies Moscow."

However, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that according to the decision made at the Washington Summit in 2024, Ukraine's path to NATO membership remains irreversible and still stands.
