The Government of Canada has extended for another 12 months the regulation that cancels customs duties on imports of Ukrainian goods. This was announced by Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Yuliya Svyrydenko.
“I want to thank the Government of Canada for supporting Ukraine during the war. Extending the preferential regime for Ukrainian imports will help strengthen Ukrainian exports, preserve jobs, and boost the economy amid the war. It will also allow more Ukrainian producers to join global trade and supply chains,” Svyrydenko said.
Ukrainian goods will continue to have duty-free access to the Canadian market until June 9, 2026.
Canada’s Minister of Finance and National Revenue, François-Philippe Champagne, said:
“Canada has confirmed its support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine through military, financial, and humanitarian aid. Today’s decision underscores this support by promoting Ukraine’s economic resilience and demonstrating Canada’s commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine for as long as needed.”
The duty-free measure was initially introduced on June 9, 2022, for one year and has been extended annually since. Since its introduction, Ukrainian exports under this program to Canada have exceeded $35 million, saving Canadian importers $8.5 million in duties. The extension could save an additional $1.2 million. Total Ukrainian exports to Canada in 2024 reached $152 million.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Canada has allocated over $8 billion in support for Ukraine.
