Croatia will reintroduce compulsory military service starting January 1, 2025, with a duration of two months, as announced by Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anušić, according to RTL.

"The service will last for two months, starting from January 1, 2025. We will continue to implement everything we have communicated to the public. We have increased salaries for soldiers, sergeants, and officers, along with their entitlements, including per diem and other allowances," Anušić stated.

He emphasized that the current European situation does not allow Croatia to economize on its military.

The minister believes that the country will have a stronger and improved image of its Armed Forces compared to before.

"We are equipping and modernizing the Armed Forces. We are organizing them in line with expectations and agreements with NATO allies and the NATO leadership," Anušić noted.

It is worth mentioning that Croatia abolished compulsory military service in 2008, with military service being voluntary since then.
