Submarines of the Black Sea Fleet cannot operate in the waters of the Sea of Azov due to insufficient depth

This was stated by the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, Captain 3rd Rank Dmytro Pletenchuk, during a nationwide telethon United News.

"Most likely, these submarines (from the Black Sea Fleet) are primarily on duty in the eastern part of the Black Sea. As for the Sea of Azov, their presence there is practically impossible due to the shallow depth. They can only be on the surface and navigate very limited corridors," said Pletenchuk.

He added that submarines also cannot operate in the northern part of the Black Sea due to insufficient depth for their full use. When they go to sea, they are most likely to be in the eastern part.

"They do not risk operating surface ships; they are mostly based in the port of 'Novorossiysk,' with their presence in the sea being represented by submarines. Usually, this is one unit. When you see two, in most cases, it is a rotation," added the spokesperson.

He noted that the threat from the sea is constant. Russian aviation is also present in the air over the Black Sea around the clock.

"We constantly monitor the presence of one missile carrier, which is mostly on combat duty and does not participate in active strikes. As for aerial attacks, for a long time now, these aerial attacks are usually repelled," concluded Pletenchuk.
