Ukrainian drones carried out a massive attack on Mordovia on the night of October 22, according to the head of the republic, Artem Zdunov. According to Astra, the Saransk Mechanical Plant, located on Promyshlenny Proyezd in Saransk, was hit.
The enterprise is part of the state corporation Rostec and, in addition to various machinery, produces gunpowder, pyrotechnic materials, and rocket fuel. In 2020, the plant’s operations were partially suspended for 90 days due to safety violations in the production of explosives, Kommersant reported.
Mordovia is located approximately 700 km from the Ukrainian border. Drones attacked the republic for the first time in April 2024.
On the morning of October 22, Ukrainian drones also appeared over Dagestan. The target was “one of the enterprises,” according to the head of the republic, Sergey Melikov. He also reminded residents of the republic that it is prohibited to publish information about drone strikes, as well as the locations of Ministry of Defense forces and critical infrastructure.
According to the Ukrainian monitoring channel Supernova+, one of the drones struck the Dagnefteprodukt oil transshipment complex, the largest in the North Caucasus. Meanwhile, VChK-OGPU reports that the Dagnotech oil refinery may have been targeted. Both enterprises previously belonged to Dagestan’s former state secretary, Magomed-Sultan Magomedov, but were nationalized following a lawsuit by the Prosecutor General’s Office. Oil is transported through Dagnefteprodukt to the sea trade port of Makhachkala.
