Polish President Andrzej Duda promised that Poland's military would come to the defense of Lithuania if the Baltic country were to come under attack.

Duda made this statement in an interview with LRT.

The Polish President emphasized that both Lithuania and Poland are NATO members, where there is a clear commitment under Article 5 regarding collective defense.

"I state quite firmly that I find it hard to imagine a situation in which, in the event of an attack on Lithuania, it would not receive assistance from NATO, including from Poland. I mean military assistance. In short, Polish forces would defend Lithuania. I cannot imagine any other scenario," Duda said.

He added that there are other situations that are of concern but would not trigger the activation of Article 5.

"These issues should be addressed bilaterally between our countries, our governments, because we can agree on mutual support. I repeat: we are talking about situations not yet at the military level, only at the level of threat. These are two separate issues," said the Polish President.
