Energoatom has connected a 1,000 MW nuclear power unit to Ukraine's energy grid 12 days ahead of schedule, the company reported.
"On October 1, after a planned preventive repair, specialists from Energoatom successfully connected the energy unit of one of the nuclear power plants to the grid. Power is currently being ramped up. Thanks to the quality work of the nuclear engineers, the unit was brought back from repair 12 days earlier than planned," the company said in a Telegram message on Tuesday.
They added that after the unit reaches full capacity, there will be an additional 1,000 MW of power in the energy system.
"The repair campaign is nearing completion, and by the start of the heating season, all nine units located in the territory controlled by Ukraine will be ready for operation during the most challenging months. I thank the team for their excellent work under difficult conditions," said Energoatom's head, Petro Kotin, whose words were quoted in the message, emphasizing that the work is being carried out efficiently and ahead of schedule.
It was reported that since the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant on March 4, 2022, nine units at the South Ukrainian, Khmelnytskyi, and Rivne Nuclear Power Plants, with a total installed capacity of about 7.8 GW, have been operational in the Ukrainian energy system.
