Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Ville Tavio, announced support for Ukraine’s educational reform with €20 million and for the school nutrition reform with €500,000. He made this statement at the European Regional School Feeding Forum in Kyiv.
It was noted that at the forum, Finland announced its support for the World Food Programme’s school nutrition program in Ukraine with €500,000 in 2024.
Tavio also stated that between 2025 and 2028, Finland would support Ukraine’s education sector with €20 million. The bilateral project will focus on implementing general secondary education reform. It was prepared in cooperation with Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science, Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture, and the Finnish National Agency for Education.
The reform will also include the development of a system for student social protection and addressing students’ psychosocial needs caused by the war.
The Minister also signed a framework agreement on a credit instrument—the Finnish-Ukrainian Investment Fund (FUIF), which will generate investments of up to €50 million in 2025–2026 to support investment projects deemed important by Ukraine. The instrument is part of Finland’s national recovery plan for Ukraine, which aims to support public sector investments in Ukraine that align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and incorporate Finnish products, services, expertise, and technology.
Additionally, it was mentioned that Finland supports humanitarian activities, allocating €8 million to fund operations by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Ukraine.
