Freezing Russia's war against Ukraine won't ensure peace: EU and NATO must strategize

Freezing Russia's war against Ukraine will not lead to stable peace. Instead, the European Union and NATO need to discuss a strategy for dealing with the aggressor country.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Jan Lipavský, reported by Deutsche Welle.

As Lipavský pointed out, neither the North Atlantic Alliance nor the European Union has a strategy regarding Russia.

"There are no common debates about our strategy towards Russia neither in NATO nor in the EU. I consider this to be a mistake. I think we should have such debates. During such a discussion, we need to discuss how the war in Ukraine should end," he said.

At the same time, he emphasized the need to adhere to the principles of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and the 1991 Budapest Memorandum.

He separately highlighted the principle according to which the state and people of Ukraine should have a voice in deciding the future peace with Russia.

"The biggest mistake we, the West or the leading powers, could make would be to impose or dictate any decision to Ukraine without inviting it to participate in this process.

He noted that in such a case, Ukrainians would feel betrayed, which would not lead to a strong and just peace and security in Europe.
