Expansion of defense cooperation, development of bilateral economic ties, and joint humanitarian projects were the key topics of the meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala in Prague.

The Ukrainian President expressed gratitude for Czech support and concrete cooperation, especially in defense. He praised the Czech artillery initiative as highly effective and expected to yield even greater results this year. He also noted Ukraine’s appreciation for the Czech Republic’s readiness to assist in developing Ukraine’s combat aviation.

“I’m confident we will continue to generate jobs and economic growth in both our countries through defense cooperation. This is a significant contribution by the Czech Republic to the security of all of Europe—we have at least five years’ worth of joint projects ahead. Czech companies are well aware of all relevant opportunities,” said Zelensky.

The two leaders discussed the battlefield situation and the diplomatic front, particularly Russia’s rejection of proposals for a long-term ceasefire. They emphasized the need to increase pressure on Russia, especially through tougher sanctions.

Other key discussion points included cooperation within European and Euro-Atlantic institutions, energy collaboration—especially in nuclear power—and joint infrastructure projects. Zelensky stressed that full energy independence from Russia is achievable and that the Czech Republic has proven this.

“We also have shared potential in healthcare. We are grateful for the Czech medical mission in Ukraine and especially for their support of Ukrainian veterans. We highly value the Czech assistance in restoring our medical facilities in Dnipro, Lviv, Rivne, Kryvyi Rih, Kyiv, and Lutsk,” the President added.

Zelensky also praised Czech government efforts in supporting the Ukrainian community and their respect for Ukrainians. A Unity Center for Ukrainian citizens is currently being prepared for launch.

Prime Minister Fiala reaffirmed continued support for Ukraine and emphasized expanding bilateral cooperation in economic, defense, and humanitarian areas. He noted that Czech companies are ready to play an active role in rebuilding Ukraine’s key infrastructure and that those preparing now will gain an advantage in the future.

He also highlighted military cooperation, including training Ukrainian pilots on F-16s and Gripens, the artillery initiative, and facilitating the delivery of heavy equipment.

“We are actively participating in the coalition of the willing that supports Ukraine and will continue to assist in peacetime. This planning must begin now, and together with the coalition, we are convinced that a strong Ukrainian army is essential for Europe. Ukraine can always count on us,” said Petr Fiala.
