The General Staff confirms the use of the newest Ukrainian FP‑5 rocket‑drones against the Russian forces.

This was reported by Major Dmytro Lykhovii, spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during an “open dialogue” with journalists organized by the leadership of the defense company FirePoint.

“The combat use of the Flamingo began in May 2025. And as of this autumn, its use against enemy targets continues,” the General Staff spokesperson noted.

According to him, this is currently an experimental weapon, and work on its improvement is ongoing, though complicated by the high cost of each unit and the manufacturer’s production capabilities.

“In the case of the FP‑1 drone (a jet‑powered drone designed and produced by FirePoint – ed.), we acknowledge significant effectiveness achieved after years of mass use and further refinement. But according to the General Staff’s experts, the FP‑5 rocket‑drone still has to go through this path. At this stage, we are talking about an experimental weapon with ambitious declared tactical and technical characteristics and great development potential. Its improvement is hindered by the high cost per unit and the developer’s limited capacity,” Lykhovii clarified.

The spokesperson also pointed out that while the FP‑1 drone underwent substantial modernization over two years, doing the same with the FP‑5 is more difficult, since “launch numbers are of a different scale.”

Meanwhile, according to Fire Point’s Chief Technology Officer Iryna Terekh, missile production is being scaled according to the manufacturer’s initial plan. The company is currently working with the military on the tactics and mass deployment of the system.

“We are progressing very well, and I am glad we are meeting the timelines that were announced earlier,” Iryna Terekh said.
