The use of dangerous chemicals by the Russian Armed Forces has become systematic. Since February 2023, there have been 5,389 documented cases of such substances being used against the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to a Facebook post by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"The enemy continues to use special munitions filled with hazardous chemical agents against the Defense Forces. Alongside conventional fire attack means, the enemy uses munitions filled with chemical substances, such as K-51 and RG-VO, which are designed for riot control but are banned for use in warfare," the statement reads.

The General Staff also noted a significant number of munitions containing dangerous chemical compounds of an undetermined type. In December 2024, the Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Reconnaissance Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine registered 434 cases of such munitions being used.

Since February 2023, a total of 5,389 instances of dangerous chemical substances being used have been documented.

Following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, radiation, chemical, and biological reconnaissance units have been directly monitoring the use of hazardous chemicals on the battlefield.

The General Staff emphasized that Russia is flagrantly violating the rules of warfare, ignoring the norms and obligations of the Chemical Weapons Convention, which prohibits the development, production, stockpiling, and use of chemical weapons, as well as their destruction.
