The German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) is launching a new grant program for Ukrainian businesses, with grants for eco-modernization projects of up to 1 million euros. According to the Ministry of Environment, the programme invites companies interested in implementing projects to modernize their production facilities. It also welcomes relevant projects that were previously initiated but halted due to objective reasons, or if companies lack the resources to complete them independently.
The grant support will involve co-financing several projects aimed at implementing the best available technologies and management methods in businesses, with funding of up to 1 million euros per project. The submission of documents for competitive selection has already begun.
Key requirements include that the project must relate to installations falling within the scope of and having project capacity according to European Directive 2010/75/EU (Annex I). Additionally, the company and its facilities must be located in Ukraine, except for occupied territories and areas with active hostilities.
Furthermore, participation in the program is contingent upon the absence of cooperation with the aggressor country and companies registered or operating in its territory, as well as those on the sanctions lists of the EU, USA, or Ukraine.
It is expected that Germany's grant program will incentivize Ukrainian businesses to engage in eco-modernization even before the full launch of reforms to reduce and control industrial pollution in Ukraine.
