In the exclusion zone, efforts continue to eliminate the consequences of a drone strike on the shelter of the fourth reactor block at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, with the IAEA team closely monitoring the situation.

This was reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on February 27.

"Frequent radiation monitoring carried out by Ukraine and independent measurements conducted by the IAEA continue to show normal levels within the NSC as well as elsewhere at the site of the Chornobyl plant," the message states.

It is noted that Ukrainian specialists have detected smoldering fire spots in the insulation between the layers of the arched containment structure using thermal imaging, including with UAVs, and are pumping water to extinguish them.

"It was clearly a serious incident in terms of nuclear safety, even though it could have been much worse. As I have stated repeatedly during this devastating war, attacking a nuclear facility must never happen," said IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.

On Thursday in Kyiv, IAEA experts examined the remains of the drone, which, according to the Ukrainian side, were collected after the strike on the containment.

"The team observed drone parts that they assessed are consistent with a Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicle. However, the team did not make any further assessment regarding the origin of the drone," the organization states.

The report also mentioned that the IAEA team at Chornobyl had reported numerous air raid alerts last week, which forced them to pause firefighting efforts, as well as the presence of drones within a 5-kilometer radius of the site, including two near the spent nuclear fuel storage.

On the night of February 14, a Russian strike drone with an explosive warhead hit the shelter above the destroyed fourth reactor block at the Chornobyl NPP.

The Security Service of Ukraine found fragments of the enemy Geran-2 (Shahed) kamikaze drone inside and near the protective structure. The service noted that experts believe the strike on the plant was intentional.
