Restorers of the "Thousands of Doors of Odesa" project have renovated the historic doors of the house of Ukrainian figure Florian Mykolayovych Rozhytskyi. The building is located at 8 Vsevoloda Zmiyenka Street. The doors were installed in 1890 during the reconstruction of the house.
"They have witnessed many generations of residents, but over time, they lost their original appearance," say the project’s community members.
The restorers removed layers of paint, recreated lost elements, restored damaged details, and strengthened the door structure. Antique brass handles in the style of the time were installed on the doors.
Additionally, they restored the capital of the leaf bar, the impost dividing the door panels and the transom, and cleaned the wrought iron grilles. Brass plates were attached to the door plinths to protect the wood from damage.
The entrance of the building became brighter due to the installation of ventilators, which allow light to pass through and air to circulate. The terrazzo at the entrance of the building still bears the letter "R," referencing the owner of the building, Rozhytskyi, say the restorers. This letter is also repeated in the pattern of the wrought iron grilles.
