Karl von Habsburg: Putin does not want peace; Ukraine needs armed support to end the war

President Putin seeks the complete destruction of Ukraine and the establishment of a new world order. Therefore, to swiftly end the war, it is necessary to increase military support for our country. As reported by Ukrinform's correspondent, Karl von Habsburg, the grandson of the last Emperor of Austria-Hungary and the president of the Pan-European Movement of Austria, stated this in his traditional "Speech on the Future of Europe."

"I advocate carefully listening to what Vladimir Putin and his propagandists are telling us. Not falling into the paralysis of fear and burying our heads in the sand, mistakenly thinking that if we leave Ukraine to Putin, everything will return to how it was before February 24, 2022. It is about giving a clear assessment of the situation and having the courage to take responsibility, which Europe and the Western world need now," von Habsburg said in a speech with the theme "Courage to Take Responsibility" this year.

As an example of such responsibility, he cited the story of Ukrainian professor and historian Igor Zhaloba, the head of the Pan-European Union of Ukraine. Despite having the opportunity to leave the country, he did not flee and voluntarily joined the military, demonstrating the same responsibility for Ukraine's future development that he taught his students.

Karl von Habsburg emphasized that Putin does not want peace and has fully reoriented Russia's economy toward the war machine.

"This means he anticipates a prolonged war, disregarding his population and subjecting them to brutal infantry attacks. He clearly tells us he desires a new world order. He vehemently denied Ukraine's right to exist before attacking it for destruction. He and his propagandists explicitly state their vision of at least the eastern half of Europe – once the Eastern Bloc – as their sphere of influence," emphasized the head of the Pan-European Movement of Austria.

According to him, considering these statements from Moscow, it becomes clear why those who believe that each new arms shipment to Ukraine only prolongs suffering and leads to more deaths are mistaken. "Everything is happening to the contrary. The sooner we help Ukraine expel the Russian army of destruction from the country with our support, the sooner the war will end," von Habsburg concluded.

The Austrian politician and public figure also pointed out the need to stand against "all those parties that deceive us, claiming that a peace treaty can be signed with the Putin government."

"Many politicians, presumably, believed this after Moscow's war against Georgia in 2008 and after the start of the war against Ukraine in 2014. However, the fact is that Putin violated every agreement and used every pause only to prepare for the next aggression," he said.

As Karl von Habsburg emphasized, it is not just about Russia's war against Ukraine but about defending Europe from a despotic system now.

"The axis of Moscow, Beijing, Pyongyang, and Tehran challenges our value system. A value system based on rules, international law, not on violence and destruction," he concluded.
