The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is working on the possibility of creating a modern testing ground for testing new technologies used in demining processes, including the involvement of artificial intelligence.
This was discussed during a working meeting of specialists from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Economy, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the UN Development Program, and others.
The project aims to increase the effectiveness of humanitarian demining, test innovations, and promote the exchange of experiences between Ukrainian and international partners.
Representatives of the Ministry of Defense suggested that those present at the meeting join this initiative of the Main Department of Demining, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety.
"The polygon under the Ministry of Defense's control could become a unique platform for conducting joint research, testing, and training," emphasized the representative of the Secretariat of the National Mine Action Authority, head of the Department of Information Management for Mine Action at the Main Department of Demining, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety, Colonel Olga Drobot.
She emphasized that the latest technologies and their development allow for significantly speeding up the process of non-technical land survey, and consequently, humanitarian demining, improving the safety of deminers, and reducing risks for the civilian population.
Additionally, the parties discussed new approaches to analyzing satellite and aerial photographs for mapping mined areas, as well as the use of neural networks for automatic recognition of minefields and the integration of modern artificial intelligence algorithms into planning and safe demining processes.
