Famous Actor Daniel Brühl and Producer Malte Grunert will be guests of the 12th Odesa International Film Festival 2021, in August, in Odessa.


The guests of the 12th Odesa International Film Festival will be a two-time nominees for Golden Globe and BAFTA award Daniel Brühl and film Producer Malte Grunert. Together they will present their new joint film Next Door and hold a workshop session, which will open the Summer Film School of the 12th OIFF. The arrival of Daniel Brühl and Malte Grunert is organised jointly with the Goethe-Institut in Ukraine.

Daniel Brühl began his acting career as a child, making his debut on German television. Becker's tragicomedy Good Bye, Lenin! brought a significant success to the actor, in which Daniel Brühl played the major role and received the European Film Academy Award for it. The biographical drama Rush, directed by Ron Howard was the next loud work for the actor. Daniel Brühl was nominated for the Golden Globe and the BAFTA award for the role of racing driver Niki Lauda. The actor is also known for such films as The Bourne Ultimatum, Inglourious Basterds, The Fifth Estate, Captain America: Civil War, Kingsman: The Great Game and the Alienist TV series.

Among the famous projects from Malte Grunert's production works is The Most Dangerous Man, the spy thriller directed by Anton Corbein, nominated for Oscar, war dramas Land of Mine by Martin Zandvliet and The Aftermath by James Kent with Keira Knightley and Alexander Skarsgård starring. Malte Grunert also produced by Daniel Brühl's Next Door film, which was first presented at the Berlin Film Festival. Currently, the series adaptation of The Tin Drum and a remake of the cult French film The Adventurers are being developed.

The tragicomedy Next Door, presented by the guests within the 12th OIFF, is the director's debut of Daniel Brühl, in which he played a hyperbolized version of himself. In the film, Brühl explores the themes of gentrification and social inequality in Berlin. According to the plot, the protagonist Daniel is a famous actor who together with his wife and children lives in a penthouse in the stylish district of Prenzlauer Berg. One morning he is preparing to fly to London for film tests to a superhero blockbuster, but on his way goes to the bar, where he meets his neighbor. He clearly knows much more about Daniel than the hero imagined...
