Odesa International Film Festival starts the Month of European Cinema

On November 4, the Month of European Cinema by OIFF, initiated by the Odesa International Film Festival, begins. The program includes 52 films that were shown in non-competitive programs of the OMCF in different years. In particular, viewers will be able to watch laureates and participants of international A-class film festivals such as the Cannes, Venice and Berlin film festivals.

So, in Kyiv and Chernivtsi, there will be screenings of the best examples of art cinema for different tastes. For example, during the Month of European Cinema, OIFF will show Paul Verhoeven’s tragicomic thriller “She” with Isabelle Huppert in the lead role, Nicolas Winding Refn’s thriller “The Neon Demon”, Terry Gilliam’s tragicomic fantasy “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote”, Lynn Ramsey’s thriller ” You Were Never Here”, the film “The House That Jack Built” by the king of film manipulation Lars von Trier, the fantastic drama “Baby Joe” by Jessica Hausner, the drama “Hero” by Asghar Farhadi, the horror “Titan” by Julia Ducournau and many others.

“Our modern reality can frighten, disturb, excite and evoke a whole palette of emotions at the same time, no worse than any movie. But, unfortunately, this is our life, not fiction. We desperately need to find alternative forms of existence and reflection. This is precisely why art and cinematography exist as one of their forms. We offer the audience to immerse themselves in the world of fiction, where everyone can find a movie to their liking: empathize with the heroes of drama films or worry about a character in a thriller, immerse themselves in history or travel through a fantasy world. I am sure that cinematography has healing properties, and we are going to prove it with our initiative,” said General Director of OIFF Anna Machukh.

20% of the funds from the sold tickets will be directed to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The month of European cinema from OIFF will last until December 29, 2022. Film screenings will take place in Kyiv at the “Oscar” cinema (Sportivna Square, 1a) and in Chernivtsi at the Cultural Centre named after I. Mykolaichuk (140 Main St.).

The event is organized with the support of the European Film Academy, the Arthouse Traffic company, and the EU programme “Creative Europe”.
