During the night of September 10, all Russian drones that violated the border were shot down over Polish airspace. The operation was coordinated by NATO aircraft with the participation of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, which carried out air security missions.
“Polish and allied air operations related to incursions into Polish airspace have concluded. We thank NATO AIRCOM and the Royal Netherlands Air Force, whose F-35 fighters helped ensure security in Polish skies.”
As reported by Poland’s Operational Command.
Ground-based air defense systems together with radar reconnaissance have returned to planned operational activity and continue to monitor the air situation.
The search for and identification of possible crash sites of objects that breached the airspace continues in coordination with local authorities.
“An operation is underway related to repeated violations of Poland’s air border. The military used weapons against the objects. I am in constant contact with the President and the Minister of Defense. I received a report directly from the operational commander,”
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote this on X, during the night.
Tusk informed NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg about the downing over Polish territory. This was the first time in modern history that Poland destroyed Russian targets directly over its own territory.
