The creation of a Vineyard Register and the conduct of a full inventory of grape plantations in line with EU approaches should become one of the key steps for developing Ukraine’s wine industry and its further integration into the European support system.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture following a roundtable discussion on viticulture.

Participants noted that meeting European requirements for the registration of grape plantations would open up opportunities to attract EU financial instruments for sector development after Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

During the roundtable, two flagship Ukrainian grape varieties bred by the Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking named after Tairov were presented — Odeskyi Chornyi and Sukholymanskyi.

It was noted that these varieties have already been showcased internationally and demonstrate the potential of Ukrainian breeding in creating competitive wines.

Participants also discussed support for the winemaking industry, preservation of vineyards and the genetic potential of Ukrainian varieties, promotion of Ukrainian wines in domestic and international markets, as well as the development of wine tourism and rural areas.

Particular attention was given to product quality and safety, production traceability, and certification, which could help expand cooperation between producers and retail chains and support entry into new markets.
