Russia attacked two bulk cargo vessels sailing through the maritime corridor in the Black Sea with attack drones. The ships were flying the flags of Barbados and Panama.
This was reported by the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper.
“The enemy continues its terror against the peaceful Odessa region and is attempting to disrupt the operation of the Ukrainian maritime corridor. Today, two bulk carriers flying the flags of Barbados and Panama, which were traveling along the maritime corridor, were attacked by strike drones in the waters of the Black Sea,” the statement said.
The Russian forces also launched several waves of attacks against southern Odessa region. Civilian facilities and energy infrastructure were among the targets.
No casualties were reported as a result of these attacks.
Emergency and utility services are working to deal with the consequences.
Ukraine’s Ministry for Communities and Territories Development reported that the vessel flying the Panamanian flag was en route to a port in Odessa region to load metal products. A fire broke out on board but was quickly extinguished by the crew.
A Barbados-flagged vessel carrying wheat was also damaged. Both ships remained seaworthy and continued along their planned routes.
“Yet another attack on civilian shipping once again confirms that Russia is deliberately threatening the security of maritime logistics. Despite this, the Ukrainian maritime corridor continues to operate, ensuring exports and contributing to global food security,” the ministry emphasized.
