Filming is underway in Odessa for a feature film about the founder of Ukrainian cinema, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, whose teaser was presented at the Cannes Film Festival.
This was reported on Facebook by Odessa’s mayor, Hennadiy Trukhanov, who visited the film set.
“I had the honor to visit the set of the feature film ‘Dovzhenko. The Legend of Ukrainian Cinema’ — a movie that tells the story of the early years of the great artist, founder of Ukrainian cinema Oleksandr Dovzhenko. This is a joint project involving Ukrainian and foreign producers, which has already been presented at the Cannes Film Market. The lead role is played by the talented Ukrainian actor Hryhoriy Baklanov. The film is directed by Kostyantyn Konovalov,” Trukhanov wrote.
According to him, the facade of the Odesa City Hall “played” one of the roles in the film, as it was in Odessa that the young Dovzhenko took his first steps in major cinema.
The film “Dovzhenko. The Legend of Ukrainian Cinema” transports viewers to 1926 — an era of jazz, ballet, creative freedom, and at the same time, repressive pressure. The young Dovzhenko arrives in Odessa to shoot his first film — not to serve ideology, but for the sake of art.
