The photograph by Ukrainian photographer Serhii Miroshnyk won first place in the 10th international photo contest of natural landmarks, "Wiki Loves Earth."
The photo, taken in the Bila Dibrova nature reserve (Darnytskyi district of Kyiv), was recognized as the best. It captures a beetle—insect of the tiger beetle species (Cicindela soluta).
This year, the competition involved 50 countries, marking a record number. Over 61,700 photos were submitted by more than 3,300 participants.
Magdalena Sobolevska-Bereza: "Fantastic photo! It's like a scene from a microcosm film. I love the sharpness on the insect's body with the blurred plants around it, as well as the balance between the blue sky and the red moss! The author's technical skills and creativity deserve an award."
Jan Ainali: "A cheerful and illustrative capture of this species. It depicts touches of the general vegetation, which, however, does not overload the composition."
Evelyn Heidel: "Almost perfect, encyclopedic, and beautiful composition—a wonderful use of microcomposition."
"Wiki Loves Earth" is an international photo contest of natural heritage objects aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and other projects, as well as drawing attention to environmental issues.
