The majority of Russian shelling of Ukraine’s border areas is concentrated in the Sumy region, according to Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
“Russians continue shelling Sumy region, but they are also attacking parts of Chernihiv and Kharkiv regions. However, most of the strikes are currently focused on Sumy, and the enemy is not reducing its activity there. In particular, they are using a significant amount of aviation to carry out strikes,” Demchenko said during a televised broadcast.
He noted that in most cases, Russian forces use drones to attack border areas in these three regions, dropping explosive devices.
“These include fiber-optic drones and FPV drones, which the enemy uses to strike Ukrainian border areas, targeting settlements and terrorizing civilians,” the spokesperson added.
He also reported that small Russian assault groups continue attempting to infiltrate Ukrainian territory along certain sections of the border.
“This is primarily in the direction of Novenke and Zhuravka. Similar infiltration attempts are also occasionally detected in other areas, but they are all within the same operational zone. The enemy is trying to accumulate forces on Ukrainian territory using this tactic to expand the zone of active combat,” Demchenko stated.
According to him, these assault groups are being eliminated—both when they cross into Ukrainian territory and even before they reach the state border.
