On Tuesday, June 24, the Horodyshche-Pustovarivka Agricultural Company (HOPAK), part of the Hals Agro holding, exported its first batch of domestically produced biomethane, according to ExPro market sources.

With this shipment, Hals Agro has become Ukraine’s third biomethane exporter, joining Vitagro and MHP. The company exported nearly 73,000 cubic meters of biomethane—previously stored in Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities—through the gas transmission system via Hungary. The buyer was the German energy company Uniper.

Hals Agro launched industrial biomethane production in 2023 at its Lynovytsia biogas complex. In November 2024, the company began injecting biomethane into Ukrainian underground gas storage.

Meanwhile, First Deputy Energy Minister of Ukraine Yurii Sheiko and Deputy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk met with an EU delegation led by Trade Counselor Anne Berthiaud to discuss integrating Ukraine’s Gas Transmission System (GTS) into the European Union’s Union Database (UDB). This move aims to increase the presence of Ukrainian producers in the EU biomethane market.

The Ministry of Energy is finalizing a package of verification documents related to already completed biomethane export operations. According to the ministry, these materials will serve as the foundation for Ukraine’s formal readiness assessment for reporting within the UDB.

The Union Database (UDB) is one of the EU’s key tools to ensure transparency and traceability in the trade of renewable gases.
