Russian forces carried out widespread attacks across multiple regions of Ukraine over the past 24 hours, killing at least six civilians and injuring dozens more.
The heaviest attacks were reported in the Zaporizhzhia region, where four people were killed and 28 others injured after Russian forces launched 973 strikes on 45 settlements, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said.
The attacks included 29 airstrikes targeting the city of Zaporizhzhia and numerous surrounding communities. Russian forces also launched 737 drones, primarily first-person-view (FPV) drones, six multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) strikes, and 201 artillery attacks across the region. Authorities received 249 reports of damage to residential buildings, vehicles, and civilian infrastructure.
Late on June 28, Russian forces struck an infrastructure facility in Kropyvnytskyi, triggering a fire, according to Ukraine's State Emergency Service. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and no casualties were reported.
In the Sumy region, Russian troops carried out nearly 90 attacks on 26 settlements across 19 communities, killing two civilians and injuring several others.
According to Ukraine's National Police, a 69-year-old woman died while being transported by ambulance after coming under attack in the Seredyna-Buda community, while a 77-year-old man was killed in a drone strike in the Velyka Pysarivka community. Several other civilians were wounded in drone, artillery, and guided aerial bomb attacks, including residents of the Sumy, Khutir-Mykhailivka, and Seredyna-Buda communities.
The strikes damaged residential buildings, civilian infrastructure, vehicles, agricultural buildings, and commercial properties. Ukrainian investigators have opened criminal proceedings into the attacks under Article 438 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which covers war crimes.
In the Kharkiv region, Russian strikes hit the city of Kharkiv and 24 settlements, killing two people and injuring at least 26 others, including two children, according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov. A 55-year-old woman was killed in the village of Zadontske in the Zmiiv community, where several others, including children and adults, were injured. In Valky, a 45-year-old man was killed, and additional civilians were wounded.
Across the region, strikes affected multiple communities, including Bohodukhiv, Starosaltiv, Derhachi, Izium, and others. The attacks included the use of multiple weapon systems, including drones, guided aerial bombs, FPV drones, and artillery. Infrastructure damage was reported in Kharkiv, where residential buildings, garages, warehouses, and an AЗS (fuel station) were hit. Additional damage was recorded in residential areas, farms, vehicles, and energy infrastructure across several districts.
Russian forces attacked 43 settlements in the Kherson region using drones and artillery, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.
Five people were injured during the attacks, which damaged eight apartment buildings, 13 private homes, a shop, a gas pipeline, agricultural machinery, and civilian vehicles.
Russian troops launched more than 10 drone and artillery strikes on the Nikopol and Kamianske districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region. Private homes, an administrative building, and infrastructure facilities sustained damage. Fires broke out in the Kamianske district, but no casualties were reported.
Russian drones struck two districts of the Poltava region overnight and into the morning. A drone hit a petrol station in the Poltava district, injuring one person. Another drone crashed on the grounds of an enterprise in the Myrhorod district without causing casualties. The attack also caused partial power outages in the Hadyach community, where repair crews are working to restore electricity.
In the Donetsk region, seven civilians were injured in Russian attacks on June 28, according to regional governor Vadym Filashkin.
Regional authorities said the cumulative civilian toll in the government-controlled parts of the region has reached 4,138 killed and 9,734 injured since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, excluding casualties from the occupied cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha.
