Belgium will sponsor the reconstruction of Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as Chernihiv and the Chernihiv region, and plans to allocate €150 million for rebuilding social and energy infrastructure.

The relevant memorandums were signed by Vasyl Shkurakov, Acting Minister for Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, and Dirk Deprez, Director of the Belgian development agency Enabel in Ukraine.

"We value Belgium's robust military support, which is extremely important for Ukraine. We are particularly grateful for Belgium's decision to contribute to the reconstruction of Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. These memorandums simplify the implementation of our joint programs and projects and will aid in the recovery, economic, and social development of Ukraine. I am confident that Belgium will play a significant role in rebuilding our country," said Vasyl Shkurakov.

The ceremony was also attended by the newly appointed Belgian Ambassador to Ukraine, Luc Jacobs. He emphasized that this is his second mission in Ukraine as an ambassador, and he is already observing a significant expansion of cooperation between Ukraine and Belgium. This, in his view, indicates a consolidation of efforts in Ukraine's reconstruction. The ambassador highlighted that the security agreement signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo in May this year serves as a guide and foundation for enhancing cooperation in the coming years.

During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Infrastructure, Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Kyiv City Council, and Enabel, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Infrastructure, Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, Chernihiv City Council, and Enabel.

These documents outline the parties' commitment to reconstructing, updating, and building facilities in education, healthcare, and energy infrastructure. Ukraine and Belgium will also collaborate on enhancing the resilience of the country—building shelters and implementing backup energy supply and heating systems.

The parties also agreed to foster the development of partnership relations between Belgian and Ukrainian representatives, and to support political reforms aligned with Ukraine's EU integration goals.
