British intelligence confirms that mercenaries from the so-called Wagner Group have begun redeploying to Ukraine.
This information is contained in the British Ministry of Defence's intelligence review dated September 29.
According to intelligence, militants are returning individually and in small groups, fighting against Ukraine alongside various pro-Russian units.
The department reminded that the "Wagnerites" units left Ukraine at the beginning of June, following the unsuccessful coup attempt by the group's leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, on June 23, who died in an aircraft crash on August 23 along with other leaders of the group.
"The exact status of the redeploying personnel is unclear, but it is likely individuals have transferred to parts of the official Russian Ministry of Defence forces and other PMCs.," the British intelligence report states.
The department added that the "Wagnerites" are concentrating in the area of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region and suggested that their experience in this sector will be useful to Russian occupiers since many of them are familiar with the current front line and local Ukrainian tactics.
