Carlsberg Ukraine plans to commission a cogeneration unit at the Lviv brewery by the end of 2026, which will allow the facility to fully cover its own electricity needs.

The company’s chief engineer at the Lviv brewery, Oleksandr Kupreichuk, announced the plans during the International Economic Forum (IEF 2026). According to Kupreichuk, the company chose gas-fired cogeneration for the Lviv production site as the most efficient solution, given energy availability and economic feasibility.

“We are currently actively working to launch the cogeneration unit by the end of the year, which will effectively give us 100% energy independence,” he said.

After the installation is commissioned, the Lviv brewery will be able to fully supply itself with electricity generated in-house.

Carlsberg Ukraine also stated that it is simultaneously exploring the possibility of installing energy storage systems (BESS), which would allow more efficient use of generated electricity throughout the day.

In addition, the company is analyzing thermal energy storage solutions to further improve production energy efficiency.

Currently, the Lviv brewery covers about 40–45% of its electricity consumption through solar power plants and diesel generators. The highest level of energy autonomy among Carlsberg Ukraine’s production sites is currently at the Kyiv plant, which covers about 60% of its electricity needs.

According to a company representative, all three production sites of Carlsberg Ukraine — in Lviv, Kyiv, and Zaporizhzhia — are operating in normal mode in line with production requirements.

Carlsberg Ukraine is part of the international brewing group Carlsberg Group and operates three production facilities in Ukraine: in Lviv, Kyiv, and Zaporizhzhia.
