The Ukrainian military command believes that the preparation of new recruits for combat operations should last two months.
This was stated on December 27 by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, following a special meeting on the matter.
"Quality training is primarily about saving the lives and health of our soldiers. According to my decisions, we already have the first graduates of basic military training (BMT) after 1.5 months, instead of the former 30-day training. The further course for newcomers in military units is planned to last 5-14 days," the commander wrote on Telegram.
Syrskyi acknowledged that "in the current conditions of intense combat operations, this requirement is not always met."
He emphasized the need to ensure a full 14-day adaptation period for new recruits in the brigades.
"Commanders must prepare soldiers as much as possible for the challenges of modern warfare to keep them safe in combat. I listened to reports on training issues and their solutions, and set tasks to improve and scale up the training quality. In particular, updating the BMT standards, conducting BMT at combat brigade bases, etc.," noted the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, thanking the "commanders who responsibly approach training and the preservation of personnel."
