Russian troops control about 40% of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region. The city has been devastated as a result of the Russian invasion.
According to Andriy Polukhin, a spokesperson for the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo, speaking on a telethon,
"At present, the enemy controls the part of the city up to the canal, which is approximately 40% of the city."
He explained that if Russian forces capture Chasiv Yar, they will gain a tactical advantage over the heights overlooking the cities of Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, and Kramatorsk, as well as the logistical route between them.
Polukhin added that Chasiv Yar is shattered due to combat, similar to Bakhmut and Avdiivka.
"It is simply ruins. The enemy does not consider these territories their own; they are just destroying everything in their path," said the 24th Brigade representative.
Chasiv Yar is located in the eastern part of the Donetsk region, just 10 km from Bakhmut and 65 km from Donetsk. Before the full-scale war, it had a population of approximately 14,000. Heavy fighting has been ongoing in this area for a long time. Chasiv Yar opens the way to the Kramatorsk agglomeration and cities in the Donetsk region such as Kostiantynivka and Druzhkivka.
