Denmark and Sweden have joined other European countries in suspending funding for development projects in Palestinian territories due to the recent Hamas attack on Israel.
The Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy of Denmark, Dan Jørgensen, stated that his country is suspending funding for Palestinian community development projects to reassess its support, in light of "unacceptable acts, terrorism, and the worst kind of aggression."
Denmark had allocated around 450 million Danish kroner for Palestinian development from 2021 to 2025, with approximately 72 million kroner intended to be disbursed by the end of this year.
The Minister for Development of Sweden, Johan Forsell, confirmed on a separate press conference that his country is suspending development assistance to Palestine "until further notice" in light of the recent Hamas attack on Israel. He emphasized that Sweden does not want taxpayer money to go to entities that do not have a clear stance on fundamental issues and reject terrorism.
However, he clarified that humanitarian aid will continue and will not be suspended as a result of this decision.
As a reminder, previously, both Germany and Austria separately announced their decisions to suspend financial aid to Palestine.
