Ukraine has begun receiving some information about prisoners of war from the Russian side.

This was reported by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets, on the telethon.

'We have finally started receiving some information from the Russian side regarding prisoners of war. During the last exchange, we exchanged postcards. Together with the Russian counterpart, we simultaneously interviewed the prisoners of war that Ukraine was returning. In the presence of my employees, the Russian representatives heard words of gratitude,' said Lubinets.

Likewise, according to him, in the presence of Ukrainian representatives, the Russian side heard about torture, the lack of medical assistance, and even the loss of limbs due to the lack of timely medical care on the territory of the Russian Federation.

'We expect there will be a reaction; at least, we have planned a discussion of all this information we heard,' the ombudsman noted.

Lubinets hopes that these steps will eventually lead to the Russian side allowing representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) access to Ukrainian prisoners. He emphasized the need to pressure Russia and the ICRC to ensure compliance with international obligations regarding the treatment of prisoners of war.

'I don't know how else we can pressure the Russians and the ICRC to finally get the Russians to fulfill their international obligations, and for us to stop receiving our prisoners of war in such a terrible physical state. We have confirmation that our prisoners in Russia have died from torture,' the ombudsman emphasized.
