This week, the Estonian police, together with the Rotary Club business community, sent 22 police vehicles to Ukraine to support the Ukrainian police and border guards.
This was reported by ERR.
It is noted that part of the vehicles were purchased through donations.
The shipment includes 13 Volkswagen Amarok, eight Škoda Scala, and one Nissan Patrol. The vehicles will be handed over to Ukraine’s Border Service and the police forces of Kherson, Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Chernihiv, according to the publication.
Egert Bėličov, Director General of the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA), emphasized that a country's strength begins with internal security, and the Ukrainian police and border guards are on the frontline, helping their people.
"However, they lack enough vehicles, as many are old and numerous cars were destroyed during Russian attacks," he said.
Bėličov explained that after the first vehicles were sent to Ukraine, Estonian police leadership started considering what else they could do to help Ukraine.
Together with the Tallinn Rotary Club, the police raised €75,000 in donations. With these funds, eight Škoda Scala cars were purchased for Ukraine’s needs — vehicles previously used by the PPA under lease.
The other donated vehicles were owned by the PPA but were no longer used by the Estonian police, ERR reports.
According to calculations by the publication, since 2024, Estonia has sent police vehicles to Ukraine three times. In total, 57 operational service vehicles have been delivered to Ukraine.
