Estonia has decided to provide Ukraine with 3.5 million euros to purchase Starlink satellite systems. The equipment will enhance the stability and security of communications for Ukrainian units, including those on the front lines.
The purchase will be carried out through the IT Coalition – a group of 17 partner countries that helps develop modern digital infrastructure for the Ukrainian military.
“Reliable satellite communications allow the military to stay connected and operate high-tech systems, including drones. This is the foundation of combat effectiveness and saving lives. We are grateful to Estonia and the IT Coalition partners for their consistent support, which directly strengthens our Armed Forces,” said Oksana Ferchuk, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalization.
This year, Estonia has already provided Ukraine with military and technological assistance equivalent to about 0.3% of its GDP. The support includes training programs, equipment procurement, and IT solutions development.
The IT Coalition is one of the capability coalitions within the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (the “Ramstein” format). It supports the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in IT, communications, and cybersecurity. The coalition currently includes Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Finland, Sweden, and Japan. Estonia and Luxembourg lead the coalition.
