Estonia plans to start its own ammunition production by the beginning of next year.

The production of ammunition is set to be established at the Emari military base.

Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur reported this, according to ERR.

He noted that while Estonia does not yet have a defense industry park, alternative ways need to be found to accelerate domestic ammunition production.

"In the current security situation, it is crucial to start ammunition production in Estonia as soon as possible," said Pevkur.

The minister explained that one option is to offer a tender for a company to begin this production in Emari.

"There is infrastructure there that meets the necessary safety and reliability requirements," Pevkur said.

Therefore, the Estonian State Defense Investment Centre will soon organize a tender. The winner will be granted a three-year lease for a territory of approximately 8,900 square meters with seven warehouse buildings at the Emari military base.

These facilities will be used for ammunition and explosive materials production.

In February of this year, the Estonian Ministry of Defense announced plans to manufacture ammunition and explosives domestically. This involves creating a defense industry park covering about 100 hectares. The first batches of ammunition are expected to be produced by August 2026.
