The Federal Government of Germany has announced a contribution of EUR 30 million within the framework of the German-Ukrainian Energy Partnership for the purchase of equipment to restore Ukraineâs energy infrastructure damaged by russian shelling. The corresponding funds will be allocated to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, established by the Energy Community Secretariat.
âPutin wants to break Ukrainians and plunge them into the cold with his cruel tactics. We will not allow this to happen... That is why we are mobilizing survival aid, including generators and transformers,â said German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock at the International Donors Conference on December 13 in Paris.
âI sincerely thank Germany for its contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The procured equipment will help us to restore electricity supply to the population as soon as possible after the russian shelling, which is critically necessary in this wartime winter,â said Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko.
Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Artur Lorkowski stressed that Germanyâs contribution to the Fund at this critical time is very important. This is the largest contribution to the Fund to date, which will allow to repair the much needed energy infrastructure of Ukraine and thus restore basic electricity and gas supply services for Ukrainian citizens.
For reference
The Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established by the Energy Community with the support of European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.
Denmark, the United Kingdom and the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA) have already become donors to the Fund.
Consolidated funds from the donors of the Fund are directed to the restoration of energy infrastructure that was damaged or destroyed as a result of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, started by the russian military aggression. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine coordinates the requests of Ukrainian companies for relevant restoration works. All procurement is carried out by the Energy Security Project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
