The investment company Double Tap has funded the Ukrainian startup Black Forest Systems, which develops drones.
The fund specializes in transformative technology sectors, including defense, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, with a focus on high-return investments.
“In addition to supporting DTI’s strategy aimed at helping Ukraine secure victory, this partnership also plays a significant role in implementing the recently published Finnish Drone Systems Development Strategy 2030,” noted the fund’s co-founder, Jan Saarinen.
Black Forest Systems produces the Vyirok reconnaissance and strike drone for infantry support, which was developed in six months. It is designed to eliminate enemy forces during assaults or defensive operations and is intended for use by regular infantry soldiers with basic technical skills.
The exact amount Double Tap invested in Black Forest Systems has not been disclosed. It is known that Double Tap Investments (DTI) typically invests between $100,000 and $300,000 per deal.
In March of last year, Jan Saarinen visited Kyiv, where he met with more than 20 Ukrainian defense-tech startups. He emphasized that Ukrainian startups need investment now, but these should be investments “in capabilities, not quantity,” as “there is no point in filling warehouses with equipment that will become obsolete in six months.”
