On the night of June 7, Russian forces carried out the most powerful attack on Kharkiv since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The strike caused multiple fires, civilian casualties, and significant destruction.
This was reported by the Telegram channels of Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov, and the Ukrainian State Emergency Service.
"According to preliminary data, as of now, 18 apartment buildings (three of them with structural damage) and 13 private homes have been damaged as a result of the terrorist shelling of Kharkiv," Terekhov wrote at 07:39.
The Kyivskyi and Osnovianskyi districts, as well as the outskirts of the city, came under attack from Russian drones, bombs, and missiles.
Kyivskyi District
"Preliminarily, 40 drones, 4 guided air bombs, and 1 missile struck the territory of a civilian enterprise, causing a fire covering an area of 10,000 square meters. Four production buildings were hit. People may still be trapped under the rubble," Syniehubov reported around 7 a.m.
In addition, drone strikes were recorded:
- on a tree near a two-story residential building,
- on a private house, causing a fire over 10 square meters,
- on the ground, igniting a utility structure over 10 square meters.
Osnovianskyi District
A drone hit a 9-story apartment building, causing a fire that spread across 12 apartments on the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors, covering 600 square meters.
"A woman was rescued from under the rubble. Medics are providing her with assistance. Two cars also caught fire," reported Syniehubov.
Outskirts of Kharkiv
"Also, on the outskirts of Kharkiv, as a result of the impact of 3 Shahed drones on an abandoned cowshed and 5 drones on an open area, a fire broke out. Fortunately, there were no casualties," Syniehubov added.
Casualties
By around 7 a.m., it was reported that 17 people were injured in the attack, including two children — a 14-year-old girl and a 1.5-month-old infant. One person was initially reported dead.
However, by 07:17, Mayor Terekhov confirmed that three people had died as a result of the attack.
