The political councils of the parties "Georgian Dream", "Power of the People" and the parliamentary majority issued a joint statement in which they announced the withdrawal of the scandalous bill on foreign agents supported by them.
This is reported by Mtavari and Imedi News. The decision to withdraw the bill was made after appropriate consultations by the pro-government majority.
"We see that the adopted bill caused controversy in society. The lie machine could present the bill in a negative light and mislead a certain part of the population. The bill was labeled with a false label of "Russian law", and its adoption in the first reading was society as a departure from the European course," the statement said.
The pro-government majority decided "unconditionally, without any reservations," to withdraw the bill they supported.
"We must take utmost care of peace, tranquility, and economic development in our country, as well as Georgia's progress on the path of European integration. Therefore, it is necessary to spend the energy of each of our fellow citizens not on confrontation but on developing the country in the right direction," the statement says.
At the same time, as the emotional background subsides, the authorities want to better explain to the public why the bill was adopted and why allegedly "it was important to ensure the transparency of foreign influence in our country."
"Georgia will maintain peace and stability and continue to move towards Europe with dignity, which is the fundamental choice of the Georgian society," the statement says.
