Former UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps, who is currently the country's Secretary of State for Defense, responded to Russia's attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure on August 26 and 27, calling it Putin's "illegal weapon of war."
He made this statement on social media platform X.
"Putin is using energy as an illegal weapon of war, but Ukraine will not be deterred by his barbaric attacks on its energy infrastructure," the message reads.
Shapps noted that, as a former Energy Minister and Defense Minister, he is proud of the UK's steadfast support for Ukraine's energy security.
"From backing vital fuel supplies for Ukraine’s nuclear power plants to committing over £170 million for energy security and resilience, the UK stands resolute with Ukraine against the actions of a tyrant.," Shapps said.
On August 26, Russia launched dozens of rockets with cluster munitions at Ukrainian electrical substations. In total, Russian forces fired 127 rockets and 109 drones at Ukraine.
On August 27, Russian forces struck Ukraine again, damaging 28 sites in 13 settlements.
