Last week, Latvia faced a new wave of cyberattacks that slowed down several government and private websites, though the attackers were unable to completely paralyze them, as reported by Delfi.
According to Baiba Kaškina, head of the IT security incident prevention institution "Cert.LV," the attacks aimed to overload websites through multiple search queries, which significantly slowed down their performance or made them temporarily inaccessible.
Experts believe that the attacks are carried out by hackers linked to Russian and Belarusian agencies. Kaškina noted that these hacktivists openly support Russia's aggressive policies and are taking such actions in response to Latvia's support for Ukraine, including recent aid packages.
The Latvian National Center for Radio and Television, which is responsible for protecting government internet resources, confirmed the political motivation behind the attacks. Center representative Vineta Sprugane stated that the attacks were likely centralized and funded.
Although the attacks lasted only a few days last week, a record attack that lasted two months was reported last year.
