On January 16, Herman Smetanin, the Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine, reported to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine about the achievements of the Ukrainian defense industry.

"The defense industry grew sixfold over the past year. The number of products increased, including around 2.5 million mortar and artillery shells, and the same amount of munitions for drones. Existing developments were improved, becoming more technological and effective, and new products were introduced. The capabilities of Ukrainian enterprises now amount to around 30 billion dollars per year," said the head of the Ministry of Strategic Industries.

According to Smetanin, currently, a third of the weaponry used by the Defense Forces is of Ukrainian production. This year, the plan is to further ramp up production, including 3,000 missiles and 30,000 long-range drones.

The minister emphasized that efforts are actively underway to attract more funding from foreign partners to turn these capabilities into real weapons that will reach the front lines.

Smetanin also explained the situation with Ukrainian-made mines.

"In short: the causes of malfunctions have been identified and corrected. A new batch, produced with updated technology, underwent several tests, including in the field. The manufacturer has resumed production, and mines are being replaced according to a schedule agreed upon with the Ministry of Defense. Meanwhile, deliveries continue under the current contract," said the Minister.

Herman Smetanin also highlighted the development and improvement of Ukraine's defense industry and expressed gratitude to Ukrainian defense manufacturers for their achievements.
