Germany and the European Union as a whole will not be able to compensate for the loss of support from the United States for Ukraine.

This statement was made by the leader of the German Green Party, Omid Nouripour, as reported by n-tv.

"It's unlikely that what the Americans have achieved up to now can be simply compensated, neither in material nor in financial terms. But, of course, in this case, we Europeans will have to strengthen our support for Ukraine," said the German politician.

Recall that in the U.S. Congress, they were unable to approve President Joe Biden's request to allocate over $100 billion for national security needs by the end of 2023. This request included over $60 billion for Ukraine.

The main stumbling block was the Republicans, who refused to support the initiative. They demanded that the White House incorporate their proposals for strengthening border security into its request.

On December 20, it became known that Congress went on recess without approving Biden's request. However, funds earmarked for assistance to Ukraine were left in the U.S. for one military aid package.

On December 22, U.S. President Joe Biden signed a bill on annual defense spending, which included a record amount for the Pentagon, $886 billion. It also specified aid for Ukraine, allocating $300 million.

Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine amounting to $250 million.
