In Odessa, a commemorative star was unveiled on the Alley of Stars in honor of the distinguished graphic artist Hennadii Harmyder.

The Odesa City Council’s press service reported that the event was part of the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the artist’s birth, which falls in 2025.

“Every name on this Alley is a piece of Odessa. These are the people without whom the city would not be what it is. And today, on City Day, we continue to tell Odessa’s story through those who shaped it,” said Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov.

Hennadii Harmider worked in oil painting and etching, creating cityscapes, still lifes, and portraits, and illustrated over 200 books. His graphic series “Odessa at the Beginning of the 19th Century,” “Odessa and the French,” and “Theater and the City” became iconic representations of the city.

This year, Odessa also hosted numerous events in his honor:

  • The exhibition “The Multifaceted Hennadii Harmyder” at the Museum of Western and Eastern Art,
  • The presentation of a monograph album at the National Scientific Library,
  • Thematic exhibitions at the Literary Museum and the O.V. Bleschunov Museum of Private Collections.
