A field office of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has opened in Kyiv, as reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
"This is a new chapter in our cooperation. The office's work will help strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and the International Criminal Court, enhance the efficiency and speed of response to crimes that Russia continues to commit daily against Ukraine and Ukrainians," said Ukraine's Prosecutor General, Andriy Kostin.
As noted on the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine's website, the newly opened ICC office in Kyiv is the largest representation of the court outside of The Hague.
In March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and children's ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova, accusing them of deporting children from Ukraine.
In July, The Hague hosted the International Center for Investigating the Russian Invasion in Ukraine, which included prosecutors from Ukraine, the European Union, the United States, and the International Criminal Court. The creation of this center was considered the first step towards establishing a special tribunal, as the materials collected by the center would serve as the basis for prosecuting crimes of aggression against Ukraine.
