Updated rules for international road transportation, adopted under the TIR Convention, have come into effect in Ukraine, the State Customs Service reports.

One of the key changes is the extension of the mandatory vehicle inspection period. Previously required every two years, inspections will now be conducted every three years. Accordingly, certificates allowing vehicles to transport goods under customs seals and locks will also remain valid for three years. This update reduces time and resource costs for carriers by minimizing the need for repeated inspections.

Another important clarification concerns the validity of certificates after their expiration. If transportation begins before the certificate’s expiry date, the document remains valid until the cargo reaches the customs office at its final destination. This ensures uninterrupted transportation and reduces the risk of unforeseen issues en route.

The updated rules, adopted at the United Nations level under the TIR Convention, are mandatory for all participating countries, including Ukraine. They establish a unified approach to organizing international transportation and help reduce administrative burdens on businesses.

According to the State Customs Service, the amendments have already taken effect in Ukraine and are registered in the Unified State Register of Regulatory Legal Acts.
